Day 3 of wet shoes and socks. It rained again last night and the trails were flooded from mile 1 to 29. The sun came out to play, but you wouldn’t dare take your shoes and socks off to try and dry them out. Resistance would be futile. Each one of my toes was in a world of hurt. Afraid to take my socks off and assess the damage. Kept hiking and wincing in pain while telling myself - there’s no way I can let this go on for another full day tomorrow.. insert my first stay at a hostel. The first time I’ve paid money for shelter, to bathe or to launder.. i feel like an entirely new man mentally (my feet are pretty wrecked, so I won’t say physically), but holy shit.. what a game changer this decision has been already. This mansion/hostel has history oozing out of each brick. The Underground Railroad went directly through this house. The inn keeper showed me the Anne Frank rooms hidden throughout the house. I haven’t stopped eating food since getting here and this just overall turned around a lot of things going wrong in my head. Life is good
