On July 7th, I soloed the Mt Rundle Traverse (Rated 5.5). This massif overlooks Canmore and Banff, a series of 11 peaks spread across 15 miles with difficulties ranging from exposed 3rd class to 5.5 alpine rock climbing. Starting a little after 5am, with not much else but shoes, a 6mm tag line, water and some bars I begin my traverse. Peaks 1-6 are non-technical and fall into exposed 3rd class terrain. At the base of Peak 7, the start of technical climbing, I put my helmet on. Peaks 7-11 feature exposed 4th class, steep scree slopes, rappelling,  5th class climbing and tricky route finding. After a 30 meter free hanging rappel on Peak 10, I missed the descent gully and was forced to surf ridges, down climb gullies and make two rappels to position myself into the correct gully system, just 1500 vertical feet lower then where I wanted to. Climbing a steep scree gully to top out on Peak 11, the day was over. A quick jog down the mountain to the car and a dip into the water. A day spent expressing myself in a beautiful alpine setting.
