Reflection on the weekend race ⬇️

Megan’s last race was March 23, 2024. She won the Crown King Scramble 50k in a blazing fast time, completing her comeback from giving birth to Leo (and heart issues). A month later, she was going to take a huge swing at the Canyons 100k.

RECORD SCRATCH. A few cells that would become Ollie had other plans. She spent that summer jogging and crewing on the trails of Leadville, carrying Ollie (and often pushing Leo in the stroller) to some slower adventures.

Ollie’s birth was complicated, involving a shocking uterus twist and an emergency c-section. The postpartum journey can be so hard, in ways that aren’t always talked about, and that’s especially evident when there’s a 6-inch wound to show the progress. 

So much work, so much grit, so much adversity. And now, @drmeganroche is back to racing, taking the win at the @aravaiparunning Aspen Backcountry Heavy Half Marathon this weekend (in a blazing fast time).

497 days between races. She’s a different athlete now—she constantly reminds me that she’s still building and has a long way to go. But I like to focus on the healing contours of that 6-inch scar—she has already come so far. 

The band MUNA has a lyric that comes to mind: “I see all your bruises—yellow, dark blue, and black. But baby a bruise, is only your body, tryna keep you intact.” Megan accumulated some bruises, like we all do over time, but that will make her stronger than ever. 

I guess that’s what they mean by ‘mom strength’ 🧡❤️💙💜
