Why isn’t this guy running much? Good question, lately I haven’t really felt like it. I guess your body has a way of letting you know something is off. I win the award for weird injuries from stress fracturing my sacrum almost two year ago to straining ribs tumbling in the jacuzzi in Cancun 😂💯

The morning after arriving back from Tahiti I woke up with a severe burning in my calf and pressure behind my knee. I was at a loss for what it could be. A no impact torn muscle or tendon? A Bakers cyst (even though I wasn’t training much), a stress fracture? After a few days I went to urgent care. They ran labs and did an ultrasound. Negative for blood clots, but then the bruising started below my knee and down to my ankle. No swelling just pain and bruising. I called my orthopedics office directly and he got me in the next day. He did a second ultrasound no tears, no blood clots. Xray showed a small funny bit on my fibula probably from a previous injury. He ordered an MRI. I was able to get the MRI the  next day. Meanwhile I had seen improvement wearing a compression sleeve. It took 5 days to get the MRI read. It showed thrombolitis in my left gastrocnemius calf muscle, but it wasn’t clear enough to see how deep to determine if it was superficial versus deep vein thrombosis (DVT). After discussing with the doctors it was determined I needed a stat ultrasound. Now that a blood clot was confirmed the game changes as pulmonary edema is possible if the clot dislodges. As of last night it was confirmed I have a distal DVT in my gastrocnemius vein of my left calf 3.2cm in length. Superficial blood clots tend to resolve on their own, but DVT requires a round of blood thinners. So here I am starting my first day on blood thinners only 89 more to go. Apparently this can happen to anyone. The classic case of a blood clot after a long flight of not moving around (blood pools) and not drinking enough water. Next time even if it’s a night flight I will be sure to move around and stay hydrated 😜

In the meantime the doctors okayed training as per usual just don’t break the skin.
