Manzano Crest Trail day 2! Such an epic, rugged route. The alder really nailed me when I climbed up onto that giant, forever expansive limestone mesa from Comanche Pass. I gritted my teeth, gave a war cry and barreled through one thicket after another, all taller than me, all ripping and tearing and sharp and cruelly unyielding. Thought I got a chunk of my hair ripped out, turns out I kept my hair, but my scalp is fairly bruised. I couldn’t really see where I was going, but randomly there was pink flagging tape hung at odd intervals and that was actually very helpful. Earlier in the day I got water at this cute little spring: Spruce Spring, which deserves a mention, because like Pine Shadow Spring the day before, it tasted lovely.
