Along the rugged trail that follows Lost Creek as it disappears underground for the first time, a group of ticks lay in wait. A hiker, full of fresh, warm blood, brushes against the bush - at last, food. 18 of the group latch on to the hikers sandaled foot; the 3 that missed the first hiker clamber on to the second. Several of the group charge strait up the giant's legs, aiming for the glorious pit of the arm. Within minutes, two of the pioneers who traveled outside the pant leg are spotted - they are flicked off, landing a world away from where they started. 
A number of pioneers opted for the less obvious inside-the-pant line. Progress is slowed by the giant's thick fur, a forest that must be slowly nagivated as to not alarm the hiker to their presence. The lead tick spots prime stop #1 - dark, nestled on both sides by skin, and extremely warm with prime blood access. In its' hurry, the tick brushes past a particularly sensitive hair - the alarm has been sounded, the giant awakened to their presence: the massacre has begun. 
The lead tick, along with a dozen others en route to the pit of the arm are picked off one by one. Some are decapitated by the giant's claws, some simply flicked into a whole new world. A few survivors hunker down in clothing folds or take refuge in the starting sock - this buys them some time and a few will make it to the torso, but in the end it is ultimately futile. Within the hour, every tick will have been removed despite their best efforts to hide. No blood will be sucked from the giant's body - the hiker has won once again.
