My watch glitched, so this is a two parter. We started once more in the dark, wanting to beat any afternoon storms. Alpine Lakes is one continuous rock hop on giant, unsettled boulders. There hadn’t been much, if any trail except for on the first day of our hike, so we weren’t surprised when there wasn’t one through this basin, but travel was especially slow around these 11,000ft lakes on the way to Alpine Lakes Pass. We negotiated 3 massive bluffs, ranging from 100-250ft in height in semi darkness, then set our sights on the pass.
