The 6th day continued… we crossed over Alpine Lakes Pass and descended into a high bowl surrounded by glaciers, full of shifting and settling moraine. The knife point glacier hung prominently beneath Indian Pass, this is where the Dixon Routers come from and we would not see anymore of them for the duration of our route, as we were headed into increasingly remote terrain. These six miles were, as Skurka says in his guidebook, some of the finest. Blaurock Pass loomed above us as we rounded the turn into a final, impressive valley. It looked imposing, it looked impossible, but we were committed to the path. Boulders, boulders, and more boulders, the climb was long and involved. The descent involved a fun scramble down bedrock which provided a break from the trying terrain on the other side of the pass. After fording Dinwoody Creek, we climbed to make camp beneath West Sentinel. The sky above was black with smoke.
